NGT
a unique venture on the Israeli horizon, is
the first Jewish - Arab high-tech business venture
to begin operation in the country. Supported by
the Jewish-Arab Center for Economic Development
(www.cjaed.org.il),
an official Government decision made possible
the establishment of the first Jewish-Arab Technological
Incubator, located in Nazareth.
The initial seed capital
required to obtain the governmental franchise
to run a technological incubator was raised by
a group of 5 Arab businessmen along with Mr. Gilo
Davidi, a Jewish high-tech entrepreneur. The incubator
has been in operation since July, 2002.
The term technological incubator
applies to a support organization that provides
fledgling entrepreneurs the opportunity to develop
their innovative technological ideas and to set
up businesses in order to commercialize them.
The NGT franchise
entitles it to run such a technological incubator
with 85% of the financing of the projects' early
stage budgets provided by the Office of the Chief
Scientist of the Israel Ministry of Industry and
Trade.
The
NGT Incubator's establishment answers the
needs of those Arab entrepreneurs who had felt
that in the past there was a need to equalize
the entrepreneurial options for Arabs in Israel.
As a Jewish - Arab owned venture with a cross-culture
staff and entrepreneurs, NGT
will be able to attract Arab entrepreneurs who
are seeking real cooperation based on mutual business
interests.
A backward glance at NGT since its establishment indicates
that an estimated 95% or more of the potential
Arab high-tech entrepreneurs in Israel who are
looking to establish new business ventures have
applied directly to the incubator. And, as a whole,
approximately 40% of all the entrepreneurs who
have applied to NGT are Arabs.
Of the 12 operating projects at NGT, seven are the initiative of Arab entrepreneurs, two are a joined Arab - Jewish initiative, and four are of Jewish entrepreneurs.
The personnel at the incubator and portfolio
companies at all levels both Arab and Jewish.
